photos by Alejandro Chaskielberg from La Creciente (High Tide) series
Alejandro Chaskielberg recently won the Sony world photographer of the year award for his series of a community of islanders living on the Parana River Delta in his native Argentina. He lived for two years with this community, joining them in their fishing and logging work, gaining an understanding of the people and their connection to the land/water. Instead of capturing the community in straightforward documentary style, he instead employed tilt-shift to create dream-like, poetic images that break the definitions of what "photojournalism" vs "fine art" photography should look like. Stunning!
